The predecessor of HCMUTE is the Technical Education College Department established on October 5th, 1962. On September 21st , 1972, the school was renamed Nguyen Truong To Technical Education College Center of Thu Duc and then upgraded as Thu Duc Education University in 1974.
On October 27th, 1976, the Institute was renamed Thu Duc University of Technical Education in accordance with Decision No. 426/TTg of the Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.) In 1984 the school was renamed Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education after emerging with the adjacent Thu Duc Industrial High School. In 1991 the school merged with Technical Education School V sponsored by the USSR.
Located on no.1 Vo Van Ngan St, Thu Duc District, in the northern area of Ho Chi Minh City, 10 kilometers away from the city center, Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education meets all the advantages to become an ideal, adequate, safe educational environment. Despite the fact that the school is located in the suburban area, the bus services can provide access to the airport, every part of the city and the vicinity conveniently.
The mission of HCMUTE is to train technical teachers for universities, colleges, vocational schools, and high schools; educate skilled engineers to meet the market’s demand; conduct scientific research and serve professional education and science – technology; collaborate with foreign scientific institutions.
Continuously improving the quality of teaching, learning, and scientific research aims to provide learners with the best opportunities to fully develop their potentials and satisfy the demand of socio-economic and international integration. These are the quality policies committed by the University.
Within the great efforts of many generations, Ho Chi Minh University of Technology and Education has had sustainable developments and got many valuable prizes from the Communist Party and the Government. Namely, the University got the Third-class Order of Independence (2007), the First-class Labor Order (2001), the Second-class Labor Order (1996), and the Third-class Labor Order (1985).
Many groups and individuals of the University have also received certificates of merit from the government and Ministry of Education and Training.
By the year 2030, the University will have striven to become one of the top universities in Vietnam - based on the criteria of quality for universities in some aspects, keep pace with prestigious universities in Southeast Asian countries and become a multi-disciplinary university. Students graduating from HCMUTE will have suitable jobs to contribute to society. The educational program will be high in versatility, and degrees granted by the University will be widely accepted and recognized both in Asia and all over the world. The university will have positive influences on the spiritual and material life of the society, especially in the Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern region. Particularly, the University aims at being one of the top 5 universities which publish international journals, top 500 leading universities in Asia,1000 trillion VND in revenue, the First-class Order of Independence, 25 accredited disciplines based on international quality standards, and raising the average income for staff of the University up to 50 million VND per month.
